During the past weeks, the Quran burning crisis has intensified once again in Sweden (and, of course, Denmark) and has been at the top of the news in the media of the region and the Islamic countries. The last miserable one was carried out on Friday, August 18, 2023.There is no doubt that insulting holy Quran and other Holy Scriptures is condemned.

     During the past weeks, the Quran burning crisis has intensified once again in Sweden (and, of course, Denmark) and has been at the top of the news in the media of the region and the Islamic countries. The last miserable one was carried out on Friday, August 18, 2023.There is no doubt that insulting holy Quran and other Holy Scriptures is condemned.

     This issue has caused the relations of the Islamic countries with Sweden to be strained in such a way that some of these countries have forcibly cut off their relations with Sweden. Some others have reduced the level of their diplomatic relations, and others cannot hide the problems which have been created in their relations with Sweden. In addition, Sweden's economic interests have been threatened in the Islamic countries, and Swedish commercial companies have protested and some projects have been closed. The same issue has caused also the security situation in Sweden to be deteriorated.

     In this regard, the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held two emergency meetings and issued resolutions against Sweden. In the Human Rights Council and the United Nations General Assembly, resolutions have been issued condemning the insulting of holy books, and one of the main audiences for these resolutions is Sweden.

     This is while the Swedish government and especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran, sympathized with the Islamic countries, rejected it, described it as a disgusting and uncivilized act, and asked everyone not to consider these measures as approved by the government. According to the results of the polls, the majority of Swedish people are also against the Quran burning.

     Despite all this, the process of insulting the Holy Book of two billion people continues in Sweden, while, In respect of the holy Quran, there is a kind of competition between Muslim nations, and they teach the ways of respect to their children from childhood. All Muslims, including those who are prejudiced and meticulous in carrying out religious orders and those who are not, consider respect for the Holy Quran mandatory and implement it obsessively. If they see a Holy Quran or even a page of it on the ground, they immediately pick it up and put it in it’s special place with full respect. Many non-Muslims also consider themselves bound not to disrespect the Holy Quran and consider it impermissible to desecrate Holy Scriptures. The desecration of the Holy Quran has been condemned by the great religious leaders of the world, including Pope Francis.

     However, these days, Muslims and all the free thinkers of the world, along with most of the citizens and authorities of Sweden, watch with concern, the videos in which the Holy Quran is being insulted by very few suspicious people. Simultaneously, with the publication of news related to these hideous events, the names of Sweden as a country, the capital of Sweden, the Swedish court, the Swedish police authorities, the residents of Sweden, the Swedish law, etc. are repeated, and this country is introduced as the undeniable culprit of these painful events. This has caused the permanent good image of this country to be distorted, seriously. A country that has always been known as a model of success for many people and governments due to its excellent position in the world, having the highest standards in various fields, has now become the focusing point of negative and sometimes angry views due to this self-made and really unnecessary crisis.

     According to the Swedish authorities, based on the regulations that were formulated in Sweden in the past with the aim of protecting freedom of expression and are still being implemented, the Swedish police cannot oppose requests that involve burning the Holy Quran. Therefore, recently efforts have been started by the Ministry of Justice of Sweden to amend some regulations related to the process of  security evaluation implemented by police prior to grant permission, but these amendments are supposed to be made in the unknown future to prevent the desecration of the Holy Scriptures.

     The Swedish authorities expect the world, and especially the Muslim nations, to understand and be convinced by these explanations and don't accuse the Swedish government for inaction. But is this expectation right? Is this method for protecting freedom of expression acceptable one? Isn't this justification an unforgivable oppression to the freedom of expression? Can there be anything else but a conspiracy by the enemies of relations between the Islamic countries and the Kingdom of Sweden? 

     Accordingly, the Swedish government is firmly expected to stop this horrible process of insulting Holy Quran in order to preserve Sweden's position and good image and also to alleviate the suffering caused in the Islamic world and the entire world as a whole.
