A letter from our Foreign Minster concerning the events in Palestine and Gaza

A letter from our Foreign Minster to the United Nations Secretary General and the Secretary General of The Organization of Islamic Cooperation concerning the events in Palestine and Gaza

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

Excellency,

With the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan and the continued inability of the United Nations Security Council to bring a halt to war in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank due to the United States’ clear and deliberate obstruction of any effective action by the Council -- through repeated recourse to veto -- it is absolutely urgent and necessary for the international community to find practical ways out of the current dire situation and take serious measures to support the Palestinian people by stopping forthwith the military attacks against the Gaza Strip.

The continuation of genocide in the Gaza Strip and Rafah and war crimes in the West Bank, the Israeli regime’s blockage of humanitarian aid and food to the Gaza Strip, and its use of starvation as a method of warfare against Gaza’s inhabitants aimed at continuing the genocide and destroying women and children, are startling signs that have sounded alarm bells on the most unprecedented human disaster of this century.

It is now crystal clear that one of the dangerous goals of the Israeli regime in completely besieging the Gaza Strip and preventing the sending of immediate and sufficient humanitarian aid thereto, is to create conditions for social and civil collapse, to destroy all signs of Palestinian life and identity, and to forcibly transfer the residents of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to the neighboring countries. This once again proves that the criminal Israeli regime deliberately pursues the policy of complete annihilation of the “Palestinian nation and its identity”.

The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the Zionist regime’s actions in splitting the north and south of the Gaza Strip, using starvation to force people to leave the north of Gaza, planning attacks against Rafah, barring people from returning to their homes in Gaza, and preventing the access of relief agencies, including those affiliated with the United Nations, to all residents of this region. Iran considers precluding this disaster to be the most immediate responsibility of the international community and international organizations, most especially the United Nations.

Following the killing of more than 31,000 Palestinian citizens in recent months, the Israeli regime, by obstructing the flow of immediate humanitarian aid and food to the Gaza Strip, is intended to collectively, gradually and painfully kill the remaining residents of Gaza. For this reason, it is expected that your Excellency, as the Secretary-General of the United Nations, will once again invoke Article 99 of the United Nations Charter and other envisaged mechanisms to avert the occurrence of this human disaster of the contemporary century.

On the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, I yet again would like to underscore the need to take effective measures to prevent the Israeli occupying regime from committing possibly further aggressive actions in Al-Quds Al-Sharif and against the Palestinian worshipers during this holy month.

Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
